Senior schooling

The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) developed the Economics General Senior Syllabus 2019, version 1.1.

The syllabus, teaching and assessment resources are located on the QCAA website. Further resources and information are available to practising Queensland teachers. These are located on the QCAA school portal, and access to this site is provided by the school employer. Please see your Queensland school employer to arrange access.

Syllabus review: Revised syllabuses are developed for implementation every five years. Syllabuses developed in the current syllabus review and revision process will be implemented with Year 11 students in 2025. Further details are provided on the QCAA website.

Syllabus review feedback: QETA held a webinar for teachers in May 2023 to seek feedback on Draft 1 of the 2025 syllabus. Members are always encouraged to provide feedback to QCAA with respect to what works well in the syllabus, and what could be improved or sharpened.

Some schools in Queensland alternatively offer the International Baccalaureate Program.

Junior schooling

Queensland schools plan, teach, assess and report according to the Australian Curriculum. The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has developed Economics and Business Australian Curriculum for Years 5-10. Information and resources are located on the QCAA website and the Australian Curriculum website.

Version 9.0 of the Economics and Business Australian Curriculum was released in May 2022. Information and supporting resources are provided on our Junior Resources pages (Link).

Australian Curriculum review feedback: QETA sought feedback from members to the review of the Economics and Business Australian Curriculum, Years 7-10, during their survey review period. QETA’s involvement aims to work with ACARA to develop an Economics and Business curriculum that teachers want to teach and that students want to learn. To support members and their review of the proposed changes, QETA held three open online meetings to facilitate discussion and an understanding of the proposed curriculum. During this period, QETA surveyed members to capture their views so these could be feedback to ACARA. The outcome of the survey and the QETA response to ACARA are available here.
