TRAVELS
T-Shirt travels takes us from an urban charity clothing store
in the US to a remote, desperately poor fishing village in
Zambia, Southern Africa to investigate the second-hand clothes
business, and examines the growing inequalities that exist
between the rich and poor countries. This award-winning program
reveals how poverty is tied to obstacles imposed by Third
World debt; that poverty is exacerbated by the harsh economic
conditions dictated by the World Bank and the International
Monetary Fund.
As the population grows poorer and poorer, the enduring spirit
and resilience of the people remain. We hear from villagers
who sell secondhand clothes, and from other Africans who explain
the challenges they face in a global economy.
The video is an excellent discussion starter for the examination
of issues such as the movement for the abolition of Third
World Debt and Structural adjustment programs imposed by the
World Bank and the IMF.
